Saint-Mathieu-du-Parc is a municipality in Quebec (Canada) located in the Maskinongé Regional County Municipality and in the Mauricie administrative region.
The Shawinigan River crosses the municipality from northwest to southeast. From Lac des Souris, in the southwest of the municipality, the Souris River flows east to its confluence with the Shawinigan River.
Saint-Mathieu-du-Parc takes its name from its parish, created on September 21, 1872, Saint Matthew's Day. This name commemorates one of the four evangelists. The amputation of one of the "t"s in the apostle's name is common in toponymy.
The second part of the place name, "du Parc", was adopted in 1980 by the post office, then in 1998 by the municipality. It refers to the Mauricie National Park, whose eastern entrance is in the municipality. Saint-Mathieu-du-Parc has also been known as Saint-Mathieu-du-Lac-Bellemare, in reference to the lake located in the heart of the village, and Saint-Mathieu-de-Caxton, from the canton where it is located.
